Day 1

  • Start your day early with a pickup from your hotel in Arusha.
  • Drive to Lake Natron, which is located about 120 kilometers (75 miles) southwest of Arusha. The drive will take you through the Maasai Steppe, so keep an eye out for wildlife along the way.
  • In the afternoon, arrive at your campsite or lodge near Lake Natron.
  • Take a short walk to the lake to see the incredible scenery. Lake Natron is a unique and otherworldly place. The lake is home to a large population of flamingos, and the surrounding landscape is dotted with volcanic features.
  • In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner at your campsite or lodge.

Day 2

  • Spend the day exploring Lake Natron and the surrounding area.
  • You can go on a hike to the rim of the volcano that created the lake, or take a boat trip on the lake itself.
  • Be sure to pack your swimsuit, as you can also go for a swim in the lake. However, be aware that the water in Lake Natron is extremely alkaline, so it's important to avoid getting any in your eyes or mouth.
  • In the evening, return to your campsite or lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Day 3

  • After breakfast, depart from Lake Natron and drive to the Gelai Crater.
  • The Gelai Crater is a dormant volcano located about 30 kilometers (18 miles) east of Lake Natron. The crater is about 3 kilometers (2 miles) in diameter and is home to a variety of plant and animal life.
  • Hike to the rim of the crater for stunning views of the surrounding area.
  • In the afternoon, continue to your campsite or lodge near the crater.
  • In the evening, enjoy dinner at your campsite or lodge.

Day 4

  • Spend the day exploring the Gelai Crater and the surrounding area.
  • You can go on a hike to the bottom of the crater, or go for a bike ride or horseback ride in the area.
  • In the afternoon, return to your campsite or lodge for some relaxation.
  • In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at your campsite or lodge.

Day 5

  • After breakfast, depart from the Gelai Crater and drive back to Arusha.
  • The drive will take you back through the Maasai Steppe, so keep an eye out for wildlife along the way.
  • In the afternoon, arrive in Arusha and be dropped off at your hotel.
