Tour Plan

Day 1

  • Travel to Nyerere National Park: There are two common routes to Nyerere National Park from Dar es Salaam:
    • Road Transfer: This is the most common and budget-friendly option. The drive takes approximately 5-6 hours, offering scenic landscapes and glimpses of rural Tanzanian life.
    • Fly-in Safari: For a quicker and more luxurious option, consider a flight from Dar es Salaam to an airstrip inside the park (depending on lodge location).
  • Check-in and Afternoon Boat Safari: Arrive at your lodge near the Matambwe Gate, the usual entry point for the Rufiji River Route. Settle in and enjoy lunch.
  • In the afternoon, embark on your first exciting adventure - a boat safari along the scenic Rufiji River. Keep an eye out for the park's abundant hippos and crocodiles basking on the riverbanks, as well as elephants and other wildlife coming down to drink.
  • Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 2

  • Early Morning Game Drive: Rise with the sun for a thrilling game drive in the park's diverse landscapes. Explore open woodlands and floodplains, where you might encounter lions, cheetahs, and other predators on the hunt.
  • Relaxation and Lunch: Return to your lodge for breakfast and some time to relax, enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
  • Afternoon Game Drive: Embark on another game drive in the afternoon, exploring a different section of the park. This drive might reveal a different set of wildlife, including giraffe, zebra, antelope, and a variety of birdlife.
  • Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 3

  • Extended Boat Cruise: Spend a leisurely morning on a longer boat cruise further down the Rufiji River. This in-depth exploration allows for a deeper immersion into the vibrant riverine ecosystem. Spot a wider variety of birdlife, including fish eagles, kingfishers, and herons, alongside basking crocodiles and hippos.
  • Picnic Lunch on the Riverbank: Enjoy a delicious picnic lunch on a secluded island or a scenic riverbank, soaking in the tranquility of the wilderness.
  • Optional Afternoon Activity: In the afternoon, choose between relaxing at your lodge or participating in an optional activity, such as a guided nature walk to learn more about the park's flora and fauna.
  • Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4

  • Departure: After breakfast, enjoy some final moments at your lodge before departing Nyerere National Park.
  • Return to Dar es Salaam: Choose your preferred return method:
  • Road Transfer: Take a scenic drive back to Dar es Salaam (approximately 5-6 hours).
  • Fly-out Safari: Depending on your lodge location, a flight back to Dar es Salaam might be available (check with your tour operator).
  • Arrive in Dar es Salaam and transfer to your chosen accommodation or onward destination.
